Can I make hashbrown bites vegetarian?

If you want to make a vegetarian hashbrown bite, then just leave out the sausage. Now I can’t say that the balls will stay formed without the sausage though.

You might have to make them more like patties if the balls fall apart.

Can I use another variety of cheese?

Any flavor of cheese will work for these breakfast sausage balls. I love cheddar but pepper jack, Monterey jack, or even a blended cheese will work wonderfully.

Are fresh or frozen hashbrowns best to use in this recipe?

Frozen shredded hashbrowns are best. You are going to find it helps the breakfast sausage balls hold the shape better once your roll and bake them.

What additional add-ins can be added to this recipe?

  • Add in some chopped bacon that is cooked and grease drained.
  • Leave out the Bisquick and replace it with 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of baking soda.
  • Use cubed hash brown potatoes instead of shredded ones.
  • Season with a little season salt or your favorite spices.
  • Add some heat with a few drops of hot sauce.

Best sausage to use in this recipe?

Ground breakfast sausage is what you need. Now in terms of flavor, you can do a sweet or savory sausage.

The flavor of sausage is your own personal preference in terms of flavor. So feel free to reach for any flavor or brand that you and your family enjoy.

What type of sauces can be used for dipping?

Dip in a hot sauce, bbq sauce, breakfast salsa, or any other sauce of choice. Or eat them without sauce if you would like. Either way these are so good, and I think you are going to love the flavor and texture.

Can I use shredded potatoes in this recipe?

Hashbrowns are shredded potatoes. You are very welcome to shred your own potatoes for the recipe. Just know the potatoes will stay soft in the center of the balls, and the outside becomes a bit crispy.

How to make sure your sausage hashbrown bites are evenly sized?

Grab a cookie scoop for this. You are going to create evenly sized balls that will bake up evenly.

I used the tablespoon size cookie scoop. Feel free to use any size of cookie scoop, just adjust the baking time as needed to fit the size of your balls.
